The operation process of the pneumothorax treatment model

Date:2025-10-16      Author:Shanghai Chinon medical Model & Equipment Manufacturing Co., LTD

The pneumothorax management model is a teaching and training device used to simulate the emergency treatment of pleural effusion. It mainly helps learners master the identification, decompression and drainage operations of pneumothorax. Before the operation, one should be familiar with the structure of the model, including the chest wall, intercostal Spaces and the position of the simulated lung tissue, to ensure the accuracy of the operation.

Firstly, trainees should determine the location of pneumothorax based on clinical manifestations and model indications, and select an appropriate puncture point (usually the second intercostal space along the midclavicular line or the fourth to fifth intercostal Spaces along the midaxillary line). Secondly, prepare for aseptic operation, wear gloves and disinfect the puncture site. Then, a dedicated puncture needle is inserted vertically or slightly backward and upward into the thoracic cavity. When the resistance disappears or a sound of gas escaping is heard, the needle core is immediately pulled out to complete the decompression of the thoracic cavity.

If further operation is required, a thoracic drainage device can be connected for continuous exhaust or liquid-gas separation training.

Throughout the entire operation process, attention should be paid to aseptic standards, the depth and direction of needling to ensure the safety and accuracy of the simulation operation. Through the training of the pneumothorax treatment model, learners can master clinical thoracentesis and first aid skills proficiently and improve their emergency treatment capabilities.
